The Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolaños has returned five parcels of land totalling 8,000 sq km to the indigenous 'Miskito' Indians of the country's Caribean coast. The peoples of Tani Tasbaika, Mayagna Sauni As, Li Lamni Tasbaika Kum, Mayagna Sauni Bu and Miskitu Indian Tasbaika Kum now have communal title to their land.
President Bolaños said, 'Now the lands have returned to their true owners, lands for which the communities have been fighting for many years, since the time of our ancestors.'
