"Since the World Heritage Site was declared our life has got harder every day"
Kampu, an Indigenous Karen youth from Kaeng Krachan National Park in Thailand, describes the desperate situation his people are facing since their home was declared a World Heritage Site. #UNESCO awarded Kaeng Krachan National Park World Heritage Site status in 2021, despite being well aware of the long history of human rights violations in the park, including brutal evictions, the burning of Kampu’s village, multiple arrests and the murder of Karen activist Pholachi “Billy” Rakchongcharoen in 2014. Karen people are prohibited from practicing rotational farming inside the Protected Area, which is fundamental to their way of life. They say that without their land “the Karen will be no more”.

#TribalVoice is a project by Survival International, the global movement for tribal peoples. More than one hundred and fifty million people in over sixty countries live in tribal societies.
From the Amazon to the Kalahari, from the jungles of India to the Congo rainforest, Tribal Voice gives them a platform. They experience appalling racism and genocidal violence. Their lands and resources are stolen for profit. Their ways of life are being deliberately and systematically destroyed.
Here they speak out about what matters to them; watch, listen, and get involved: https://svlint.org/TribalVoice
