When Atxu was a child, he lived uncontacted in the Brazilian Amazon with his family. But then he was forcibly contacted, and adopted by a non-Indigenous family. He never saw his family or people again.

It wasn’t easy for him to adapt to life outside the forest, and he stresses how important it is to respect uncontacted peoples’ decision to reject contact.
